GIS Calibration Source Energy

plot

This plot shows the peak energy of the GIS calibration source spectra over the course of the ASCA mission. The red points represent GIS2 and the green points represent GIS3.

This plot gives a measure of the accuracy of the GIS gain calibration at the location of the calibration source. The calibration at the center of the field of view may not be following the same behavior. The GIS instrument team is currently investigating the up-turn in the GIS3 energy starting around 1996. More data points will become available before 1996 as rev2 reprocessing progresses. See the ASCA GOF's GIS News page for more information about GIS calibration.

The peak fitting method is described in detail in the ASCA Processing Description under the revision 2 "calsource" procedure. The procedure is the same as the one used by the GIS instrument team at the University of Tokyo.

A PostScript version of the above plot is also available.
