This plot shows statistics for network transfers from ISAS to GSFC using rcp. Each dot represents a single file transfer, with only files larger than a megabyte shown. This is to avoid scatter from the connection overhead shown in the rate v.s. size plot The horizontal axis plots time of day in EST, even when EDT is in effect. Japan time is eleven hours earlier than EST.
Transfer rates tend to be best between 5PM and 11PM EST, which is 6AM and noon Japan time. This suggests that the transfer rate is limited by both traffic in the US (the rise after 5pm EST) and in Japan (the fall after noon Japan time).
